If you have a safety deposit box, and you have a trust, be sure to title the safety deposit box in the name of your trust.
This makes sure that you, and after you are unable to do so, your successor trustees, can gain access to the box without having to go through probate to get an order to allow the trustee to access it. Assigning the asserts inside the safety deposit box is not enough – you need to actually title the box to the trust.
This will save considerable time and money by avoiding going to court for your trustees to get an order to access to the box.
If you don’t have a trust and a solid estate plan in place, then it is time to get one.
